A caregiver arrives during the hours when your parent is most likely to wander, often afternoons and evenings. They're present in the home, engaged with your parent, meals and medications are handled, and there's structured activity like walks, sitting outside, or time in familiar parts of Woodstock. The caregiver knows the exits, the neighborhood, your parent's history, and what triggers restlessness. If your parent does express a need to leave, the caregiver goes with them and keeps them safe while still giving them dignity and movement.

We can often start within 48 to 72 hours of a call if a caregiver is available. Day Kimball discharge planners know us and can include us in your discharge planning. We'll need a brief intake conversation to understand your parent's behavior, their medication list, their neighborhood habits, and any other safety concerns. If you're discharged on a Friday, we'll work to have someone in place by Monday or Tuesday.

Elopement Care is private pay. Medicare and most insurance plans don't cover specialized behavioral supervision in the home. We can give you our rates upfront and talk about what a typical week or month looks like cost-wise. Some families use long-term care insurance if they have it, and we can provide documentation for those claims. If cost is a barrier, we recommend talking to a social worker at Day Kimball or your local Area Agency on Aging about resources.

Home health aides focus on activities of daily living, hygiene, meals, and general assistance. Elopement Care caregivers do those things, but their primary skill is understanding wandering behavior, preventing unsupervised exits, and staying calm and present during difficult moments. An Elopement Care caregiver is trained to read your parent's patterns, knows the neighborhood geography, and has experience with the emotional complexity of keeping someone safe without restricting them. If your parent is at risk of leaving the house, Elopement Care is the specialized approach you need.

Yes. We take time to understand your parent's history, personality, what neighborhoods feel familiar to them, any medical complexities, and what time of day they're most restless. We then match with a caregiver who has experience with that profile and who is a personality fit. We've found that matching matters more than availability. If the fit isn't right after a few days, we'll work to find someone better suited.

We have backup caregivers trained and familiar with your parent's needs. We give you notice as early as we can, and we only use someone from our backup pool who we've briefed on the situation. We don't hand your parent off to a stranger on short notice. If you're uncomfortable with a backup caregiver, we'll work to find someone you trust, even if it means scrambling our schedule.
